SIBS Place (Survivorship In Brothers & Sisters)
The Laura Rosenberg Foundation salutes and supports a unique and
innovative program for the siblings and parents of children with
cancer and other devastating illnesses. This free South Nassau Communities
Hospital program housed in Hewlett, provides structure and nurturing
to help families overcome the emotional challenges and changes they
face with an ill child in the family. At SIBS Place, the focus is
on providing attention to the well sibling and to support their
parents.
While many programs exist to meet the needs of ill children, few
are available for their siblings. Siblings often become the forgotten
victims of their brother's or sister's illness.
A sibling must face the normal challenges of growing up, often
burdened by feelings of anger, fear, jealousy, guilt, abandonment
and loss. Well siblings often benefit from additional emotional
support, attention and routine.
SIBS Place is where children, ages 5-17, can get back many day-to-day
experiences and routines often lost when a family coes with an ill
child.
SIBS Place brings fun, individual attention, continuity and support
back into the lives of siblings.
